A Cadre of Clutches

There are accessories that you depend on in everyday life. The taupe heels, or the pearl earrings. Black ballet flats, sunglasses. The giant purse you cart to work that holds a paperback, notebook, phones, keys, wallet, tissues, mints, water, at least 3 lip balms and who knows what else.

On the other hand, there are items you might not use on the daily but are just as essential when the outfit or occasion calls for it. And like a great party dress, they make you happy just looking at them in your closet. Clutch purses and wristlets are the perfect example.

I love trading my large purse for a clutch when I’m going to be walking a lot, or when I want to keep track of less stuff, or when we’re going someplace fancy. Clutches and wristlets are great for travel. They don’t take up much room in your suitcase – use them to store your makeup or jewelry, then swap with your typical traveling purse when needed.I’ve never regretted purchasing a clutch that catches my eye, and they are perfect gifts to give or receive. My sister Sunny bought chic Coach clutch wristlets for my other sister April and me as Christmas presents one year. I totally copied the idea by gifting my sisters the tropical clutches from Sephora in the top photo – picture with a black dress, or solid color sundress, or jeans and bright top. Oh yes, I ordered one for myself too.

Clutches and wristlets can elevate an outfit and add a bit of glamour or whimsy. Check out the vintage gold metallic one that I inherited from my Great-Grandmother, or the cool Paris-themed ones that my Grandmother gave me for my birthday. I picked up the one addressed to “my darling planet earth” and think it’s meant to be a pencil case – but is cute as a clutch purse! Obviously, you can’t go wrong with a black sparkly version. I’ve never even used the pretty pink rose one in the photo above, but know I will one day and am happy to have it tucked away in my cadre of clutches.
