A Salute to English Breakfasts

by Wendy
There are so many things I love about London. One thing I don’t think I’ve mentioned before is the full English breakfast.

As far as I can tell, there are variations of the full English, but a plate often consists of fried or poached eggs, beans, toast or fried bread, sausage or bacon (or vegetarian option), mushrooms, and tomatoes. Sometimes kippers, or maybe bubble and squeak.

I’ve also heard it called a fry-up. Isn’t it beautiful, especially with a strong cup of hot coffee or tea?

Perfect brunch order. A celebration of the weekend. Reward for waking up early. Morale booster. The right accompaniment for gossip/stories with friends or family. Fuel for your city hiking. Energy for stair climbing. Even goes well with a pint. Potential hangover prevention. Potential hangover cure. Comfort food. Simply one of the best London treats.

You can order English breakfasts in many restaurants and pubs. Jack and I are fond of Polo Bar, and all of these tempting photos are from our September visit to Smiths of Smithfields. We found Smiths by just searching online the last day before we flew home. Besides full English options, their Belgian waffle is pretty gorgeous as well.

Be sure to enjoy a cracking good breakfast when you’re in London. And please tell me if you have any recommendations for new places to try!
