Beach Weather Gamble: Part Two

by Wendy
Beach weather gamble Part One was much more dramatic than this story. Just a few weeks ago, Jack and I were looking forward to a weekend getaway in Dewey Beach, Delaware. Then weather reports start predicting rain Friday – Sunday. We almost cancel, but decide to go for it. Let’s see your cards, Dewey Beach! We can deal with a little rain.

It doesn’t rain at all. We have perfect beach weather. We spend long afternoons and evenings relaxing on the shore.

The Hyatt Place Dewey Beach is great. It’s right across the street from the beach. Spacious and comfortable rooms, complimentary breakfast included.

There are many restaurants and bars within walking distance. There is such a nice breeze at night that it’s comfortable to dine outside, which is more than we can say for humid DC these days.

We love the Mexican food at Que Pasa and open air seating on the sand. We have a delicious lunch at Nalu Hawaiian Surf and Grill – the french fries in particular are surprisingly awesome.

We have a few drinks at The Lighthouse and admire the gorgeous sunset. We watch the lively, crowded street from a sidewalk table at Dewey Beer Co. We split the fried chicken sandwich and oyster po boy sandwich and both are so good, especially accompanied by the excellent craft beer.

We can’t control the weather. Like so many situations, you learn to play the cards you’re dealt. Gamble for your beach responsibly, hope for the best, be safe, make the best of things. And remember that the frustrating stuff can still make a good story.
