Packing for the Caribbean

In November, Jimmy and I spent five glorious days in Negril, Jamaica at the Rockhouse Hotel to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary.  As I was looking through our honeymoon photos (also spent in the Caribbean) I laughed at some of my style choices.  Granted, I could get away with a lot more at the age of 23!  I did most of my shopping for our Jamaica trip during the summer sales when swimsuits and sundresses are cheap and plentiful.  Here’s what I packed for our low-key resort stay,

jamaica wardrobe

Sundresses – Three thin, airy, non-wrinkle sundresses were my main pieces.  And I must admit that I only ended up wearing two of them.

I wore this sundress twice!

Shoes – Gold strappy sandals for dinner and flip flops for the daytime were all that was needed here.

Skirt and top – When I found this skirt, it reminded me of something I might have worn on my honeymoon 10 years ago.  Paired with a more modest top, I think I pulled it off!

My (too) short skirt and top!

Shorts and Jeans – I wore a pair of skinny jeans (not pictured) with plenty of stretch on the plane with a loose-fitting top and light jacket (not pictured).  I wore the same top and jacket home, but paired them with the aqua-colored shorts.

Swimsuits and Resort-friendly cover up –  I spent the most time in my swimsuits on the trip!  I like to take two so that I can change after a swim (sitting around in a wet swimsuit is not always comfortable or good for you) and it gives the other a chance to dry. Plus they take up practically no room in my suitcase. I actually brought two of the exact same style of swimsuit – one solid orange and the other a floral print.  I loved the style of my cover up.  It was a great length, a cute print, and looked fine to wear to breakfast or lunch  However, I wish I would’ve taken two cover ups.  After a few days of throwing on the same cover up over a damp swimsuit or after my massages, it started to feel not so fresh.  Next time, I will swap one of the sundresses for another cover up, or use that extra sundress AS a cover up!
