Summer Travel Wardrobe

When it comes to travel in the summer, there is always the weeklong beach getaway in my plans.  I love the beaches on the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic.  But summer travel also means spontaneous getaways.  An impromptu trip to Chicago to check another ballpark off of the list, or maybe a day wandering around in Baltimore, Indianapolis, or Cincinnati.  It is these spur of the moment trips when I am glad that I created a summer travel wardrobe at the beginning of the season.  Creating a summer travel wardrobe takes the stress out of packing for last minute trips so the focus can be on the fun! Small tweaks will be made depending on weather, but these trusty pieces have worked well for me this season.  Take a peek inside my summer travel wardrobe!

Choose an interesting color palate: I chose blues and corals for this season.

Always a Dress:  Wendy has emphasized the importance of having a dress on standby in her previous posts.  This summer I chose a navy, snakeskin print, A-line dress from Piperlime. (Have I mentioned how much I MISS Piperlime?!) The material doesn’t wrinkle and the fabric is loose and flowy.  Goes with any sandal and can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion.

Shorts: I usually opt for skirts and dresses, but sometimes the situation just calls for shorts.  I have two favorite pair: dark denim and white.  The length and fit are key.  I am able to wear these with flip flops or wedges.

Skirt: I love the white skirt with blue pattern at the hem.  Plus, the top has a wide, gathered elastic waist which makes it more comfortable.

Tops: I have 3 basic solid tees in baby blue, white, and black.  They go with anything!  Go ahead and try wearing one over a sundress.  Add a belt or tie a knot in the front of the shirt and create a whole new look!  I also have three other tops that have more detail.  The blush colored silky shirt has become my favorite this summer.  I’ve worn it to a casual birthday party with shorts and espadrilles and on a date night with Jimmy with a black skirt and heels.  I also wore it with the white and blue skirt on our beach vacation.  The coral top and blue and white stripe top both have openings/cut outs in the back and pair well with shorts or jeans on a chillier evening.

Chilly in Chicago! Glad I wore a jacket and jeans!

Accessories: I found this coral crossbody purse at Marshall’s and snatched it up right away!  I love adding color to my bag in the summer months.  I’ve used the scarf in place of toting around a sweater this season.  It keeps me feeling comfortable in overly air-conditioned restaurants and theaters.  I love my chunky bracelets, and a few statement necklaces work when I’m not sporting my scarf.

Shoes: I bought these Champion slip-ons from Payless for my spring travel and they have lasted me into summer! Great for trips that involve a lot of walking!champion shoeFor a cute and comfy look on a trip that doesn’t involve a lot of walking, I love these espadrille wedges from Michael Kors.
