For Spring Break 2017, MJ and Jimmy voted on going to Minneapolis to reprise our Mall of America trip of February 2016.  I voted for Vermont (read Wendy’s post here), but I was apparently not very convincing. Long story short, we ended up in neither destination.  Due to our loyalty to nonrevving, we decided less than a week before our trip to cancel our Minneapolis plans and head out west where the flights looked more promising.

One of THE BUSIEST times of year for air travel and hotel booking.  We literally came right down to the wire when it came to getting a decent place to stay. Then how did we score a four-star resort hotel in Coronado, California on our Minneapolis budget?  One word: Hotwire

Ways I Save Money for Travel

Trying to save more money for travel? I love reading about the different methods people use to budget for vacations and trips, but am surprised by the strident tone some authors take on the subject. Personal finance is…well, personal, and the practicality and importance of travel varies for every person and every budget. Here are a few ways that Jack and I save money for travel – but note that it’s what works for us, personally. We’re a couple with no kids, both working full-time jobs. We agree that travel is a high priority but one that must be balanced with the expense of everyday life in a big city. We splurge on some things, save on others, and try to plan ahead. Escape from the City: The Full Relax

The perfect weekend getaway.
Often the effort and expense of these short trips can leave you wondering whether you would have been just as happy with a walk to the local watering hole followed by some Netflixation. Going somewhere new, centering on weather dependent activities, pushing the envelope on time, all bring in some risk to the trip, admittedly with no small reward if everything clicks, but often inviting frustration and disappointment. So it follows going somewhere tried and true, with numerous different activities, just far enough away to be considered a trip, is about as risk free as it gets. Continue reading
